Colonial and Continental Currency is the paper money made specifically for the British North American colonies and was almost always printed within those colonies themselves. It is also some of the greatest "history" that you, as an individual, can own. Each was signed by hand by one or more persons who was alive at the time. Often these were important and well-known individuals who also signed other things like the Declaration of Independence. Some were made by such people as Benjamin Franklin, who was first and foremost a printer. This currency allows you to collect two things at once; money and the autographs of the people who founded the United States of America. Quite an accomplishment for a simple piece of paper.
A good reference work for those with more interest in this type of currency is "The Early Paper Money of America" by Eric Newman.
